Mexican Taco Dinner
Enroot aims to bring people together over shared meals, and foster connection and understanding across differences. In a world increasingly divided, we cultivate belonging and meaningful dialogue through the simple yet powerful act of breaking bread.

Our "Global Night of Connection" will see people across the world gather in homes, around tables, and in community to share food, stories, and a collective desire to bridge divides.

In a time when loneliness is an epidemic and division feels ever-present, this is an opportunity to reclaim the power of gathering—of sharing a meal, seeing one another, and remembering that we belong to each other.

OUR ROOTS

As a Persian-American and an immigrant, food has always been a deeply personal and cultural anchor in my life. In my family, cooking is an act of love, and eating is a communal experience—a way to connect, share stories, and nourish both body and soul. We don’t just prepare food; we infuse it with care, tradition, and a sense of belonging.

I have always been drawn to cooking—not the rigid, recipe-following kind, but the intuitive, sensory kind that invites creativity and presence. For me, cooking is a form of healing, a mindfulness practice that allows me to slow down and connect with my ancestors, the earth, and the present moment. I rarely measure ingredients; instead, I let my senses guide me—the smoothness of tahini, the tang of fresh citrus, the grounding aroma of cumin. Cooking is more than a necessity; it is a ritual of reflection, memory, and connection.

My experiences living and working abroad reinforced this understanding. In every culture I encountered, food was a bridge—a way to learn, to listen, and to build relationships. When I lived in Lebanon, I learned to make hummus and grape leaves, not just as recipes but as expressions of generosity and hospitality. No matter how much or how little people had, they poured their whole hearts into feeding others, into creating spaces of warmth and welcome. When I returned to the U.S., I found myself leaning on cooking to stay connected to those cultures and the lessons they had gifted me.

It was through these experiences that Enroot was born. This nonprofit is an extension of my lived experience—of understanding that food is more than sustenance; it is a universal language of care and connection. At Enroot, we believe in the power of sharing meals to foster dialogue, bridge divides, and cultivate a deeper sense of belonging. Whether through a plate of hummus, a bowl of Persian stew, or a shared meal around a communal table, we create spaces where people can come together, nourish each other, and find common ground—one bite at a time.

GROWING OUR SKILLS

Enroot is a community building, vocationally-educating, good-food-eating, empathy-building, storytelling community with a dream of engaging the world (pretty simple stuff, eh?)

Through our bread-breaking and networking, we aim to provide a community of resources that provide direct support to all who need it, in addition to a community with whom to share all their successes and hardships.
